Downsizing in the workplace is quite possible in our uncertain
economy. If you are on the receiving end then, there are ways in which to cope in that
straineous time
Don't take it personalSometimes in life things happen to us and we have no control
over them. Despite who we are or what we have done things are bound to happen
Get angry.....laterBad things happen to good people sometimes. It's
ok to get angry but do it privately, you want your reputation to remain in good standing. Never burn the bridge yo cross because you never know when you have to cross it again.
Good griefGrief is a healthy way of getting through the loss of something valuable. Spend time evaluating
your feelings and know that it's
ok to feel hurt. however if your grief seems to be heading in a
destructive pattern go ahead and seek counselling...treat yourself to a little tenderness.
Accentuate the positiveMany successful people today give thanks to the day they were fired or laid off a job ie. Robert Redford, Muhammad Ali
and Billie Jean King to name a few. Use this time to your advantage and find your calling and how you respond when the tough gets going.
Get a RecommendationThis is why it's necessary to remain respect and decent when leaving an employment, it's important to secure a recommendation from your boss. You can volunteer to write it yourself , if you must. Get permission for your boss to put his or hers direct phone number on your resume and give out at job interview.
Be a self promoterIf ever a time, it's now to shout it from the roof top how valuable you are. Believe in yourself and let others know about it.
